Maintenance of Imprinted
Concrete Cork (Matcrete)

Cracks

Sub-base stability is important for all imprinted concrete surfaces.
In monolithic (laid as one slab) surfaces, expansion (control) joints may be cut to minimise the risk of cracks appearing on the surface.
Exposure to hot and cold weather will (like all other materials) cause expansion and contraction. In turn, this may cause “hairline” cracks to appear.

Colour Fading

Colour is added during concrete installation. Exposure to UV from the sun may cause fading but Acrylic-based sealer is used during the final stage of installation which helps protection. Obviously, to ensure continued protection, an area would need to be ‘resealed’ every few years.

When to Reseal?

A number of factors need to be considered here such as shelter, weather conditions, amount of traffic in the area, etc. A good indication might be that colour looks slightly different in some areas, possibly a bit lighter in shade. Most experts would recommend resealing every 2 years or so, in order to provide protection to the colour pigmentation from UV rays from the sun. Resealing is key to ensuring colour is maintained.
